On Monday, May 11, an historic chapter in the athletics annals of Ashe County High School came to a close. With the NCHSAA 2A State Championship Golf Match being held at Long Leaf Golf and Country Club, Trey S. finished his career as an Ashe County High School Husky.

Trey S., who is easily the most decorated golfer in the history of Ashe County High School, competed for his second time at the NCHSAA State Championship Match. Scott finished an honorable 17th in the match, with a final stroke count of 156 for the two rounds. Scott finished ahead of his fellow teammate, Tanner G., who was also a competitor in the Championship Match. Tanner G. finished with a final total of 174.

After a tough, dismal weather first round, Scott was sitting on a score of 80 strokes heading into the second round, where he shot a 76.

The match ended Trey S. high school career, which saw the rewriting of nearly every record that is kept for golf at Ashe County High School, including the Lowest 9-Holes, Lowest 18-Holes, and Low Stroke Average for Season. Some of his highest achievements include being two-time MVAC Player of the Year, three-time All-Conference selection, one-time Honorable Mention, qualified for the NCHSAA Western Regionals Match three times, and became the first time State Qualifier, and the first repeat State Qualifier.

Since stepping into high school, Trey S. has been the primary number one seed for the golf program. His freshman year, Scott immediately made an impact as he qualified for the regionals, and only improved that during his sophomore season.

In just his second year of high school golf, he became noticed conference wide as he battled every match for the lowest round and being named Match Medalist; and at the end of the MVAC schedule, Trey S. was titled Mountain Valley Conference Co-Player of the Year.

One year later, he stepped up once more, and earned the outright title as the MVAC Player of the Year. His junior season was the first season that any Husky golfer had qualified for the State Match, which was a task that Scott would move on to repeat during his senior season.

Trey S. is a member of the Senior Class of '09, and is planning to play golf at Lenior-Rhyne College.
