Preview of Post 63's Postseason

July 2, 2009
Graham High School

For the better part of this season, Burlington-Graham Post 63 has been a hitting machine. It also has been good defensively.

As it begins play in the American Legion baseball playoffs, the unanswered question becomes, can hitting and defense carry a suspect pitching staff?

"They can," Burlington-Graham manager Johnny Slaughter said of his team's hitting and defense, "but we still have to have guys that can make the other guy swing the bat and then back them up with defense."

The "other guy" will be No. 3 seed Eastern Randolph Post 81, which is sixth-seeded Burlington-Graham's opponent in the first round of the Area 3 Northern Conference playoffs. The best-of-5 series begins Friday night at Eastern Randolph. The second game will be Saturday night at Graham Middle School.
