At a pep-rally last week, students watched as Mr. J.D. Bussell and student Joanie Alexander took a pie in the face for charity. After a week-long fundraising drive by the RCHS Student Council--during which the students could vote with their quarters, nickles, dimes, and dollars for who they wanted to see take a pink pie in the face-- Rockcastle County High School raised over $150 for the Susan B. Coleman Breast Cancer Foundation. The fundraiser was a part of the council's effort to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October). Other efforts included the donation of pink wrist bands by The Rocket Sports and Apparel Shop in Mt. Vernon for the entire football team to wear during their game versus McCreary County. Also, the council sponsored a "Think Pink" drive to get students to wear a bit of pink in honor of the effort to cure this dreaded disease. The fundraiser was a rousing success as students cheered while watching both Mr. J.D. Bussell and student volunteer Joanie Alexander get splashed in the face with pink pies. Both suffered direct hits and the crowd was not disappointed; however both were good sports and took the creamy smacks to help out the cause.
