BMHS Marching Band

October 29, 2009
Ballard Memorial High School

The BMHS Marching Band is peaking at the right time as they head into the Class A Regional Tournament on October 31st at Caldwell County High School.  The band finished with their best score of the year this past Saturday at the Lone Oak Invitational with a 73.75 which earned them second place in Class A competition and third overall behind Mayfield and Class 5A Graves County.

Under the direction of Band Director Brad Hammack and Color Guard Director Savanah Caldwell, this years performance is titled Weathering the Storm.

After getting off to a slow start, the students and leaders have put in extra time to improve their performance.  The band started off the season with a score of 62.33 in Starfest at Marshall County High School on Sept 26th and then performed in a doubleheader the next weekend scoring a 64.30 at Hopkins County Central that morning then dropping to a season low score of 55.8 that night at the Festival of Pride at Caldwell County.

Using the last 2 days of Fall Break as a time to fine tune their program and a challenge from Director Hammack, the team has literally shaved off the rough edges.  Hammack agreed to shave his beard if the team scored a 70 or higher, and that was all the motivation the band needed going out and scoring a 71.75 on October 17th on a cold and damp night at Christian County Tournament of Pride.  The following Monday after practice Hammack lived up to his end of the deal getting a nice clean shave.

If the Marching Bank finishes in the top 8 in this weekends Class A Regional Tournament, they will qualify for Semifinals held at Eastern High School in Louisville on Saturday November 7th and if they finish is the top 4 at the Semifinals, they will qualify for the state finals that same night at Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium.
