2009-2010 Fulton City High School Boys' Basketball Preview

"Something Old, Something New"

The Fulton City High School Boys' Basketball team is scheduled to tip-off the 200-2010 season at Mayfield on November 30, 2009.  With the new season come a few changes that will bring some old and new things together.

George Yarbro, who led the Bulldogs to one of their best season in recent history (2007-2008), has taken on a new challenge as he has moved on to Humboldt, TN.  Humboldt is a Class "A" Tennessee powerhouse.  Stepping in as the new head coach will be Chad Malray.  Malray, a coach in the Fulton School system since 2002, will move up from being an assistant under Yarbro.  Though the high school boys' head coach position will be a new one, Malray has experience as an assistant under former coach Josh Shults and the now departed Yarbro.  Malray also served as the middle school boys coach from 2003-2006 and had several of this years' team members under his guidance.

This year's bulldogs will also have a bit of the old and new.  The upperclassmen are led by seniors Jay Banks, Jacquise Lockett, Michael Kerney, D'Vonte Newbill, Shaneal Patel, and Demarquis Young.  Lockett, a pre-season pick for the Region One All-A team, Kerney, and Young are all returning starters.  Lockett and Young are slashers who can get to the basket and score while Kerney can offer up a consistent dose of threes.  Banks and Newbill bring experience and court savvy while Patel gives added height and hustle as a post player.  The junior class consists of John Brown and Markeem Ware.  Brown has a smooth outside stroke while Ware has speed and quickness that will help in transition and on defense.

The underclassmen are led by sophomore returnees Vance Maze, Charon Ingram, and Josh Traylor.  Maze can shoot the ball from the perimeter or get to the basket.  Ingram is a hard-working defensive minded player who will bang with the best. Traylor is a post player who has the ability to knock down the open jumper.  Other sophomores who will be looked at for support are guards, Maurice Beanland and Deparis Chambers, as well as post player Kevin Remus.  The freshman group is an athletic foursome that could have a significant impact on the team's ability to be successful this year.  The foursome includes, Devon Jackson, a true point guard who runs the offense and plays solid defense, Eric Kerney, a threat from the perimeter as well as getting to the basket, Jordan Miller, a tall athletic wing who can score from the outside and post-up, and Khalil Frame, a true post player, who's size and strength enable him to effective around the basket.

By combining a little of the old with a little of the new the Bulldogs look to get better as the season goes on and be prepared to make some noise com tournament time.
